WheelHorse79 271 #1 Posted August 5, 2013 (edited) Hello: I am trying to finish up my 854 restoration and I have a couple of questions. First of all, I have found a replacement exhaust muffler and nipple, but the nipple is not long enough so that muffler clears the side of the hood. I believe the fittings are 1" NPT. Any suggestions on where to find the parts to configure the exhaust to clear the hood? Second, I have bought the Stens reproduction choke and throttle cables which are about a foot too long. Is it o.k. to cut these cables to shorten them or are there other reproductions available that are the right length? Thanks in advance for your help! Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted August 5, 2013 Most any hardware store will have the pipe fittings for the muffler, or TSC, Lowes, Home Depo, ect........ yes you can cut the cables, I do it all the time, be sure to pull the inner wire back so you don't cut it when you cut the housing, then push it back through the housing and cut the wire to size. WheelHorse79 271 #5 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) Here is a picture of my restoration to this point. The engine is now on the tractor. Could someone please post a picture or diagram that shows the routing of the throttle cable, choke cable and fuel line? Thanks! WheelHorse79 271 #8 Posted August 7, 2013 Thanks for the pictures. My 854 wasn't using the fuel pump and was direct gravity feed into the carb. Is it worth trying to run the fuel line thru the pump? Mine may not be working. Also, my throttle cable was run directly to the throttle plate and not to the governor like yours. I'll have to try your setup. The choke cable looks to be straight forward. I'll give that a try too. Obviously, someone has monkeyed with this engine in the past.
buckrancher 2,694 #9 Posted August 7, 2013 you had better fix the throttle cable thru the governor if you don't want your motor in pieces and your going to want the fuel pump if you have hills as you can run out of gas goung up one when the tank is low Brian
