Who did the rebuild? Were the rings installed correctly? That's just one thing that comes to mind when oil is burning after a rebuild.

Can you see blue smoke, or can you see blowby steam coming out the breather?

After the engine is honed, and new rings put in, the engine needs to be loaded at varying intervals of 30 -70 % for the inital 5 hr break in.  If you let it run unloaded the rings will take the nice crosshatch off, and you will basically have rings that will take 100-200 hrs to fully wear in.  (Estimated)

If you see oil smoke, you need to redo the rings once again.

The K301 has three rings. Bottom is the oil ring and generally doesn't get put in wrong because most of them can be installed either side up. The middle ring and top ring are usually the culprits. Each ring has a unique cut on one edge and has to be installed with the cut in the correct position. Each set of rings comes with a diagram of how the rings are to be installed. Generally it appears like this:

The above picture represents how my rings appeared on my K301.

I did the rebuild myself and I have done many more on other engines. But the first 2 months there was no oil being burned but slowly is getting worse. But last night I ran a lot of sea foam through it and it does not smoke as much now but is still burning some. I know I installed the ring correctly. The smoke only comes out when you speed it up quick or when it idles for about 10 minutes and you speed it up quick then more smoke comes out it doesn't really smell like oil burning but the oil is disappearing and its not leaking.

James- provided you assembled everything correctly-it leaves only 2 possibilities IMO/ was the breather put back together correctly-and-was the bore out of round in the first place? If so- honing will not help-Good Luck-Al

Did you measure the cylinder? I rebuild these old k series engines and I have found that 95% need to be bored. I hate to say it but my guess is you need to pull it down, take the block to a reputable machine shop and have them measure and bore the cylinder. Then order your applicable oversized piston and rings. You may also want them to check the crank it too it most likely out of round.

Machine cost for bore should be around 60-75 dollars and grinding the crank around 45.

All worth while if you plan keeping the engine.
