Convert engine to run on LPG

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have been looking into the option of converting my backup generator ( and maybe even my  Husqvarna front mower Rider )  to run on LPG.

I have seen several do-it yourself kits on Ebay, but do they really work ?   in some of the instructions for the kits they remove the chokeplate and almost anything else from the carburettor and just drill a big hole straight through  the carb body and install  the fttings and nozzle for the LPG regulator thingy..   how do you start the engine in cold weather without choke ?

I like the idea of running it on LPG,  it never goes stale like gasoline.. and some time ago at my old job, i was working on a 18hp B&S Vanguard twin that runs on LPG (commercially sold unit) after 2100 hours of running,  it stil looked like brand new inside, no carbon buildup or anything.

Does anyone here have any experience in the "cheap" LPG kits ?

I put a tri fuel kit on my portable generator several years ago, I got it from US Carburetion in Summersville, West Virginia. I don't remember drilling anything, It'll run on gasoline or propane and it still has the choke hooked up. I haven't used it much on propane but it seems to run good on it. I have a 250 gallon propane tank dedicated to it so I don't have to worry about keeping gas on hand should I need it.
