A New Addition to the Herd.

Been putting tons of hours in over the last 7 months on here and on Craigslist and fleabay looking for my elusive 16 Automatic. Well after many many wasted trips looking at iron that was either too expensive or too far gone I found a C-160 8 Speed in Hawley on Craigslist.  The guy wanted $400 for it but he was very honest about the flaws that it had. It sat near a building that burned and had decals melted in some areas plus drive belt broke last week and he had no idea how hard it was to change but the 16 Kohler was ok he thought as he used it quite a bit over the last 2 years. I went up and checked her out and other than cosmetics it seems really stout. I started her up and she fired within a couple cranks. Ran great, no smoke at all and when I pulled the dipstick while it was running it didn't shoot 2 feet in the air due to blow-by. It definitely needs TLC to get it back up to snuff but I kinda fell for her. What I saw when checking was... needs axle seals, they have aren't dripping but theres definitely dust stuck to the housing at the ends, needs a new drive belt, needs the plastic dash as it melted,  tires are shot and separating, needs the boot for the tranny but the fluid was crystal clear in the rear albeit to the add point on the dipstick, needs choke and throttle handles, the Nelson muffler rattles something fierce but I believe it can be fixed if I take it apart and maybe pack it with fiberglass and reweld it somehow. The only thing that concerns me was Kohler might have an issue with timing. It started but it kinda bound up on the compression stroke twice if that makes sense. Maybe compression release not functioning? It ran perfect though once she kicked over, oil was halfway between add and full and slightly brown. Not bad considering he said its had at least 50 hours on it in 2 years and he never added or changed the oil. Heres some pics of her...final price $225. might be 25-50  bucks more than I really should have but I'm ok with the price

She is going to get a full restoration after I mow with her for the remainder of this year. I don't think I'm going to touch the Kohler other than checking to see what the binding issue could be and getting it sorted immediately once she comes home next week. I'm thinking 24x12-12s on the back, bigger shoes for the front, possibly a swept forward axle from a 520? I guess time and budget will tell....

I was just up to Hickory Run last night from Delaware. (476) I should have tried to fit that on the roof of my car since it was almost 11PM when I hit I-80! Nice 160! How sound do you sleep! :< )

Well if you think $250 is too much for a C-160 you should have let somebody else jump to get that. You can't find a K-341 that needs an overhaul for that price around here. Are you going there after dark to get it? Don't forget your mask. :laughing-rofl::ychain:

That is a nice looking horse at an excellent price.  I have a feeling that she will become a favorite with you. :)

I have a felling you're very right Steve.

I have a whole list of things I'm in need of for her and questions so I'm going to start a separate post for some help.

My 160 does that bind up thing if the battery is a little low. Hopefully, its that simple.

That could very well be posifour. It has a new(er) type cheapo "Lawn and garden" battery in it, but its a second from some bargain basement place. Its stamped SECOND right in the top of the battery. Its also much smaller than the battery box so I'd say its the wrong size on top of it.

Would you mind posting the serial number on the 1-0380 ID plate? Would like to add it to the records.

Does anyone know where I could find a complete engine rebuild kit from for the k-19 ? I absolutely love my c-195 and have had it for years. But the motor let go last fall and I want to rebuild it or upgrade the motor, any suggestions?

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks

Will the plow I am using on my C121 and C160 work on a 876?
or is the plow frame different?
      Thanks
