Teddy da Bear 11 #1 Posted August 18, 2008 I have my Ford Explorer and single place snowmobile/horse haulin trailer in my backyard. Someone came along and stole the wiring harness extension to it!!! It is not a huge loss...but I figure they were after the trailer and found it locked to the hitch. Then they found the hitch itself locked to the vehicle. I am really surprized they did not try to steal the trailer license plate. It really makes me wonder at people. They had to walk across 350ft. of open ground and up close to a house....without being afraid of being caught. I wonder what else they would be capable of? Really a terrible world we live in at times.
KyBlue 655 #2 Posted August 18, 2008 For that reason, I let it be known that this here is a house where a gun lives....Several actually ... Sorry for your loss thou, even if it is only minor - its still crappy
kpinnc 14,573 #3 Posted August 18, 2008 Saw a sign in the mountains once, right at the end of a long driveway. It read: If you are found here tonight, you WILL BE found here in the morning. You have been warned. Had a nice ring to it.... Kevin
linen beige 15 #4 Posted August 18, 2008 Saw one once that said ATTENTION PROSEPECTIVE THEIF! Make sure you have done everything you have wanted to do in your life BEFORE you enter onto this property.
Mith 2 #5 Posted August 18, 2008 I never cease to be amazed at how bold some people can be. I find footprints around my workshop, which is right next to the house! Even when I am home people still take the time to wander around. Never caught anyone at it (which is good, because I don't know what I would do if I did). You cant leave ANYTHING laying about. They will even steal scrap nowadays. Almost every week I hear about someone getting cleaned out, thank my lucky stars it hasnt been me, YET. I dont know what I would do, I cant afford to insure, and I cant afford to lose the stuff. Until there is a better punishment there is nothing we can do, as the criminals say, its just too easy to do the time. And to those that think a gun is the answer, you cant always be home. Jim_M 179 #6 Posted August 18, 2008 I saw a sign once that said "this property is guarded 5 nights a week by a man with a shotgun, you guess which nights". I saw another on once that said "I don't own anything that's worth as much to you as your life".

illinilefttackle 399 #8 Posted August 19, 2008 Teddy-what rocking said is true-my dad always had beagles, no thiefs, the barking stops them-even if your not home-it doesn't have to a large dog to work- the bad part is-now that they know they can, they will target you again! I have always had a dog-whatever I could find at the Humane Society-Good luck!-AL B)
Sparky-(Admin) 23,122 #9 Posted August 19, 2008 I have my Ford Explorer and single place snowmobile/horse haulin trailer in my backyard. Someone came along and stole the wiring harness extension to it!!! Just the wiring extention?? How much could that be new at an auto parts store. Hard to believe someone would risk the consequences of getting caught for something that cant be more than $10 at a store. Mike............

Hard to believe someone would risk the consequences of getting caught for something that cant be more than $10 at a store. Mike............ What consequenses? Recently a guy was arrested for stealing copper. it was his 28th arrest in the past 5 years. He received fines (which were never paid) and probation the previous 27 times. If you were to catch him stealing from you and kick his a$$, you would be the one behind bars and probably sued. Oh yeah, when I bought my Dodge Dakota I put my Chevy Van out in the front yard with a for sale sign on it for $1000. Someone cut 3 of the tires so I had to replace them There went the profit....... How much could that be new at an auto parts store. Hard to believe someone would risk the consequences of getting caught for something that cant be more than $10 at a store. As I said in my first post.......I believe they came for the trailer. When they learned they could not get that....they quickly took what they could. Likely they disconnected it first before learning the trailer was locked to the vehicle. T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,599 #14 Posted August 19, 2008 More than likely when they couldn't get the trailer, it probably ticked them off so they stole what they could in spite. I also had something stolen recently. My daughter had a 1995 Grand Prix with newly rebuilt engine. Me and my brother-in-law put a couple of used transmissions in it. Well, I really wanted my daughter to have a more reliable car so we bought her a Chrysler PT Cruiser and we let the Grand Prix go to my brother-in-law. I parked it in front of my mother-in-laws which we moved onto my property so my wife could watch over her. My brother-in-law has been tinkering with it and I went up to talk to him and he said he got a stereo out of another car for it. I said, "Why, it has a very good Pioneer stereo already." He said no, it was gone. He thought I took it out to put in my daughter's car, but it had a good one in it already. Someone had ripped the stereo out of the dash, cut the wires and cracked the dash. I have a very good idea who did it, but I can't really prove it.

Stigian 1,234 #16 Posted August 19, 2008 Sorry to read about your trailer cables being stolen Mike, at least it was only the cables and not your trailer or anything else... I have (fingers crossed) been lucky so far and not had anything go missing, Im guessing its because i live in a big caravan on a farm. Over here most people who live in one of these metal boxes, tends to be the sort of people you dont want to mess with, and like to steal stuff.. So people think im one of those nasty people and dont come around nosing about B)
Teddy da Bear 11 #17 Posted August 19, 2008 A couple of you have mentioned about knowing who did you wrong. That would drive me crazy! I recently bought an electric fence too. It was a while ago. It was to keep the neighborhood dogs from wandering onto my property. I have yet to try it out. I am dissapointed that it comes in a bright color. I do not want them to see it before it is too late! Stupid designers.....lol
Curmudgeon 28 #18 Posted August 20, 2008 What scares me is, my pickup is loaded and ready for an early morning start. Between now and then, there it sits. Not much security in stuff piled in the back of a pickup.
Teddy da Bear 11 #19 Posted August 21, 2008 Dale you have to disguise it. Put a tarp over it. You can usually get one for about $3 at Menard's. Then throw some old junk on top of the tarp.....an old carpet.....beer cans....trash bags.... Someone will think your going to the dump and won't likely bother it. Only other alternative is sleep in the truck. B)
