wp205a 43 #1 Posted June 25, 2013 Any Winchester collectors here? I need an impossible (so far) to find part. Inner magazine tube. Now I'll have a beer and impatiently await my book
JimD 3,347 #2 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) Do you have a picture and dimensions of the part you need? Maybe a local machine shop could make you one. Have you checked this site? I did a search and got over 100 results. You need to further identify the gun to find the part. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Search.htm?s=1903%20Winchester%20%20Inner%20magazine%20tube Edited June 25, 2013 by JimD
wp205a 43 #3 Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) That's my next move Jim, I have the dimensions, a guy at my work has an '03 and didn't know it til I showed him mine. Weird. I got the critical measurements, .395 O.D. .325 I.D. I want to exhaust all hope of finding one before I burden my machinist, again. The original is steel, will use brass if I get him to make one. I've bothered everybody I could think of hunting one, decided to bug my RedSquare family. Thanks for your response. Oh yes, I've been all over Numrich. They had one in October, before I needed one. JimD 3,347 #4 Posted June 25, 2013 I think I would be leery of using brass to replace steel in a gun part. I worked in one shop that made firing pins for a major gun manufacturer out of stainless, which was then heat treated to harden it. Brass could be a big problem. Just something to think about. Maybe some more of the on site machinists will chime in here with more expertise. I sure haven't learned everything yet.
wp205a 43 #5 Posted June 27, 2013 Was looking at an old umbrella today, got out my caliper, measured the shaft, viola!, or should that be voila, anyway, on my way to convert a model 63 tube, fix it, or ruin it. This might be my last attempt at working on anything for which parts are not readily available. :banghead:
4xfourfun 30 #6 Posted June 29, 2013 I had a parts '03 I sold a buddy a few weeks back. Stock was broken, rifling gone, finish rough (barn gun). I'll see if he still has any of it or if he sent it down the road.
