My 75 C-100 has a fuel leak from the fuel pump fitting. Can I use white teflon tape? any suggestions other than that would be great.

If a new grommet doesn't fix it, it may be a crack in the seam of the tank itself, which goes right through the middle of the hole. For as many things as have been tried to repair one of those tanks, the general consensus is that it cannot be repaired. If you need a replacement tank, I have a couple. PM me.

It the fuel pump fitting. It screws into the fuel pump on the engine. I noticed the paint had lifted off the fuel pump. It is a little loose Do I have to use yellow Teflon tape when I re-tighten it?

I have always used white. I am not sure if it is right or wrong but it has yet to cause me any troubles.

Oops, I'm thinking fuel tank. Must be the Stevasaurus wine that I had for dinner. Sorry,

Teflon tape is okay, but I always use a pipe thread compound that is made for gasoline and other fuels. Yellow tape is made for natural gas and propane, but it is the same as the white tape, only thicker.

O.k. I'll use the white Teflon tape. I think Stevasaurus lives in my neck of the woods. I guess I'm missing out on the wine!

I personally would never use teflon tape on a fuel system.  Those little slivers of teflon that separate from the tape when you screw the fittings in can really muck up the works...  but, that's just my NSHO ... your mileage may vary.

I decided to use Teflon paste. The problem was when I tightened up the fitting it was pointing straight down. The fitting that was loose, was the one that goes from the fuel pump to the carburetor. I needed it to point up. I hope this works. I was going to let the paste set for a week.

Using it now, or letting it set makes no difference. Teflon paste never hardens, and it is ready to use as soon as the fitting is installed.

Didn't know that about the Teflon paste. I mowed today and had no problems!
