QUICK QUESTION PLEASE READ?

Recommended Posts

Charlie Smith

Hello all, something that I just wanted to ask,

Me and a friend where talking, he hadn't really heard about the wheel horses, so I took him out to the shed, showed him around he loved what he was seeing sadly he couldn't get a go on one as my little raider is on axel stands as all four wheels are being painted, ( just to update you the wheels are coming out great on the last few coats now) anyway I told him he could come back soon and take her on a drive about, then I was showing him this website and telling him all about you guys! He seemed really amazed and loved it, he's on the look out for a horse now,

Anyway the question arose he said, everyone that owns these machines seems people aged middle age and up, then he asked, "does anyone on RS know how old you are Charlie"

Now that bugged me so I thought I'd ask, does anyone here in the UK know my actual age?

Just checked your profile and you appear to be 16. We have had and still have plenty of younger members, probably more than we know.

You can't be as old as me, because I would have known you when I lived in Hurstpierpoint from 1952-1980. My hunch is your not a day over 35 :confusion-shrug:

I have never given it a thought and was about to say that you could still be at school for all I know when Sparky gave the game away - so now I know.

When I got into collecting / restoring military vehicles over 20 years ago now someone said to me that it was a great leveler attracting guys from all sorts of backgrounds and all ages. I've found exactly the same here on RS - it's the common hobby that counts, age is unimportant.

It's good to know though that there are 'youngsters' becoming hooked on WHs otherwise the forum has a bleak long term future!

Andy

Yes, mike is right, I think a lot of you expected me to be a lot older I'm 16 years old, so a young member, but still just as wise ;) aha,

And Anglo Traction, no I wasn't around then, however my whole family have lived in hurstpierpoint for generations, my Nan and grandad would of been living in hurstpierpoint at the same time as you. Where roughly where you located, they where located at the bottom end of hurstpierpoint, the bottom of Cuckfield road?

Well Charlie, your not the youngest on here. Not that it matters, good to see people of your age range getting interested in things mechanical.

Yep, Lived just near the top of Willow Way, where Cuckfield Rd merges with Western Rd.

Hello there, :D

Nope your not the only one, I'm hoping its not just us two, there's hopefully loads more young people out there that like these machines, they just need to join up onto red square,

And aren't you the person that brought Ian's tractor a little while back?

Ah 2 minutes away from where I live now, if you where still here we could of started a fleet of wheel horses in hurstpierpoint lol,

There is also Ewan who's about your age. Several others I recall from a couple of years ago, but may not be regular contributors

Charlie.  While there have been an occurrence or 2 of immature youths on RedSquare, I will say that the majority of our younger crowd is really top notch.  You show respect, politeness, considerate and don't engage in the text talk which I see on other forums, and even with older members.

The "old" guys here do appreciate it, and look past your age and treat you with respect and admiration. Keep up the good work to you and all of our younger members.

I thought you were older Charlie , as you conduct yourself in a mature manner and you are very polite , which can be quite a rare quality in some younge folk .

Keep it up  & it will stand you in good stead in the coming years .

Charlie, I believe I saw an original post mentioning your age, immaterial, there are lot of young and old. Jake (with all due respect) one of our young members is very mature, knowledgeable, and helpful unlike some of our youth and aged folks. You started out good, stay that way. I didn't find this place till  :techie-hourglass: was knockin at my door for mechanical and health reasons!

I was into CB radios one time and got to yapping at some people....it was fun and I kind of put my imaginary face to the people I was talking to.....then I met them one day....lol....different experience after that.

Forums are the same way....unless I see something that makes me think they are older or younger than my vision I wouldn't think any different....

I made a deal with a guy on CL a few weeks ago on a trade deal that involved a tractor.  When I got there the guy was 16 years old.  The guy knew his stuff....felt a little weird working a deal with a guy 40 years younger....

The love of all things :wh: serves to keep me younger than my actual age...

I guess that's why I'm here...these little tractors keep me young at heart.  :handgestures-thumbsup:

Quick story.

I had a Craftsman rider up for sale well over ten years ago. A guy I didn't know contacts me thru e-mail and offers me asking price if I would deliver it. He only lived 10 miles or so away and I thought it strange...maybe no truck...or no trailer :scratchead:  . We talked back and forth a few times thru e-mail and settled on a day and time for me to deliver it. We never talked by phone.

When I get to his house he turned out to be a young man probably 12-13 years old!! We did the deal with the Craftsman and ended up striking up a friendship where I would sometimes pick up a tractor he had bought but couldn't get home. We would yak back and forth sometimes thru e-mail. I made sure to meet his mom to let her decide that I wasn't some freak since I was in my mid 30's at the time.

Fast forward to 2006....he sends me an e-mail asking me to join a Wheel Horse tractor forum he had just started. It only had one member and he was it.

His name was Chris (whchris), he started this site, and that's how I became Member #2 here on Redsquare.

Young people rock!!

I think he's into chicks and trucks (bad news on both accounts right)!! I bought his Black Hood a few years ago and I think he only has a 702 left.

I see him on Facebook now and then.
