My Dad was an locomotive engineer...first hired out when he was nineteen years old... Gave his whole life to Erie Lackawana, then Con-Rail, and retired from Norfolk&Southern. KC9KAS 4,744 #4 Posted June 20, 2013 Thank you Sparky for fixing my title. My grandfather and 2 of his brothers all worked on the Southern RR between St. Louis MO & Louisville, KY. They worked all parts of the train...Engineer, fireman, switchman, conductor.....And they all got their start on steam trains. Grandpa was born 11-11-11....He was the "baby" of the family, but like his brothers has passed on.... I loved to hear stories from grandpa & his brothers! wp205a 43 #5 Posted July 2, 2013 Only steam train close to me is the miniature at the Heart of Dixie RR Club in Calera, AL, came from the Birmingham Zoo. Taking a buddy of mine and his grandson to Anniston Monday to ride The Crescent, Amtrak, #' 19 to Bham, and the #20 back.
