Vendor for new key switch ?

Recommended Posts

Bluffhunter

Well, I finally had some extra time to go to my Mom's house to see if I could get the C-161 home to start working on it, and I had recalled that Dad was having some problems with the key switch, and after removing it, I found the (ground ?) wire had been soldered at some point and that wire was no longer attached to the back of the switch. I had tried to hold the wire to the terminal and the tractor would hit but not run. I have attached a picture of the back of the INDAK switch and need to find someplace to buy a new one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!

Kyle

Sounds like this is a C-161 Twin with a Briggs and Stratton motor. Correct?

The C-161 powered by a Kohler uses a different switch. Wrong one can be a costly mistake.

Here's one place. The first is for a magnito ignition and the 3rd is for a battery ignition. Match the letters on the switches to order the correct one.

With the one price flat rate shipping it's better to order all the stuff you need at once, air and fuel filters, fuel line, carb kit, ect. ect.

Hi Garry, It appears to be the original switch and it is a 16 H.P. Kohler engine. Model # is 91-16KS01-12166.

Hi John, the link shows a 5 blade switch but the blades are not staggered like the picture I attached. It might work but I would have to change the female plug also, which I need also as the one on the tractor is burned a little.

Thanks guys ! I am trying to find a Toro dealer in my area as well.

The Kohler uses Toro switch # 103990. Napa can supply under their 7-01892.

They also have a nice 5-wire connector #7-01910 to fit that switch with 18" leads so you can start fresh.

I made a mistake in my previous post. After reading the fine print the B&S powered models also used this switch to power an isolation relay to control the magneto ignition. It was an attempt by Wheel Horse at the time to standardize the wiring between models. Didn't last long.

Thanks Garry !

I am still on the hunt, but did notice some on E-Bay for $11.95 free shipping but I still would need the female connector. At least maybe it won't be as hard to find one as I thought it might be. It's been over a year since I mowed with this tractor so I am anxious to get her home !!!

I'm confused on why the switches on that web site aren't the same as the one you posted. These switches are a pretty standard item. What is staggered different?

The 3rd one down is the switch you need for your battery ignition Kohler.

You can also get a new 5 terminal harness connector from the same place.http://www.psep.biz/store/electrical_mower.htm

3rd one down has a 9/16" diameter mounting stem.

5th one down is 5/8"

Thanks guys !

After seeing what the new switches looked like mine are not staggered. The one that has been soldered would be beside the other one to the right.

Thanks for your input, and I hope to have one ordered today.

I'll second Garry's comment....get the correct switch for your tractor...or it can be COSTLY.....I don't take a chance so I buy my switches and belts from my Toro dealer....a bit pricieeeeeee!! but they work.....

For your info, a local Toro/Wheel Horse dealer is Lumax....(named after his boys, Luke and Max)....great guy and good service.
