WH nut 553 #1 Posted June 1, 2013 I put my 8hp back together today with a new rod and piston, and did exactly what I tell everyone not to do. I didnt put the lube hole towards the cam. Ran good for about 30 minutes before she started getting tight. Have to order up a new rod again.
JimmyJam 516 #2 Posted June 1, 2013 Ouch! So it's like starting all over again? Sorry!! & Painful! The things we do when we get over-excited with new parts and want to fire up the engine... we get ooops-'s!!!
MarkPalmer 80 #3 Posted June 1, 2013 I have adopted a process of a few double-checks before putting the oil pan on. Piston in the right way (if directional). Valve tappets in right positions. (Did that one wrong one time on older K where they are different lengths LOL). Timing marks aligned. Rod cap torqued properly and in correct position. Crank end play set right. Engine rotates without binding. -Mark-
WH nut 553 #4 Posted June 1, 2013 The sad part is I did double check, even marked the rod so I could see it easier. I guess my eyes aint what they used to be lol. But you know the old saying, practice makes perfect. I can have to motor off annd opened up in 10 minutes.
