Here ya go...weight forward jigs, although you can cast or troll them.  I think bass would love them and walleyes...maybe jumbo perch.. :)   I bought them at a bait shop on the Illinois river 17 years ago...about $2 each. :)

Top water baits Craig...right colors will work under trees.  One of my favorite bass baits.  Get the "blup...blup...blup" going and watch out. :)

Wikipedia claims about 2500 species of these little buggers are currently known to exist...

wonder which one's taste the best?    :)

Actually, you can mix them up with the batter, just like you would with Blueberries. Hmm...think maybe I will bring homemade donuts this year.

Just pickemup by the wings like you would with a shrimp tail, give a little pinch to separate the wings and pop em in yer mouth...

I have eaten them, the first time is kinda rough... kinda like the first time you try clams on the half shell... ya might gag a little...

But that's not my pic... that china is way too fine for my blood!  Closest I get to china is Chinette!   And ya see the edge of that wine glass there?  Nope, no way... red solo cup is my speed.

My 'sparagus patch is producing nicely!  Where's my cicada net?  almost time fer din=din!

Hmmmm... Pizzacada sounds good!

I'll try anything...as long as there is a little Rock & Rye in that Red Solo Cup. :)

I've been noticing a bunch of empty shells over the past couple days, but on the way out the door this morning, clinging to the rock wall...I spied this little guy freshly molted from his previous shell.

I hear tell...these be the tasty ones.    :scared-eek:

Excellent pics! Thanks for posting... yep, he looks tasty all right, 'soft shell'.  I've only seen one here so far and that was a 'migrant' on someones car from Westfield where I here they're plentiful.

I'm waiting ... If I manage to get some this year I'm gonna drown them live in a baggie of Worcestershire, let them marinate for a day, and skewer them and roast 'em on the grill.

The last time the reds ones were here in our area was about 13 - 14 years ago......My kids were in school and we were at Brewsters getting ice cream on a field trip.  Kids were more interested in catching them that eating ice cream.  Those same kids are 19 and 20 years old so this bunch down here have a few more years to go....

Every year when the regular ones appear though my one dog can't wait to go outside and check the pole light area for a few morning snacks......lol

Few more images from early this morning...found some in the grass, emerging from the ground, ready to molt.    :scared-eek:

Set him up on the tree, next to one freshly molted....before and after...quite a difference between these two creatures.
