PROUD GRANDPA!

Recommended Posts

 Ok Guys-I know I'm a sentimentlist-I have 14 grandchildren-boys and girls. I have 2 grandsons living with me-The oldest (living with me) is in the 7th grade. He has chosen to play football at his middle school. The other day while I was working on the WH in the garage-he came up behind me and said " Grandpa I'm following in your foot steps". It almost brought tears to my eyes when I realized what he meant. He is not the first of my grandsons to play football-just a special one to me. You would be hard pressed to find a Game that teaches a young man more about the hard knocks of life & how to get up when your knocked down-than Football. It teaches team work, self sacrifice, sportsmanship and the rewards of having goals and working hard for them.

Listen to me-on my Soap Box- I can never repay the lessons and the relationships I got from Football. AW-the smell of the grass, the cool night air, the sounds of the crowd, THE CHEERLEADERS, and of course the joy of "CRUSHING"the guy across from you!

Misty eyed Grandpa-AL B)

Al,

I can understand your feelings. As a dad and granddad myself, I can relate. Even though I have no boys, nor grandsons (I'm surrounded by women, though one son-in-law), they still make me proud everyday. B)

Al...so nice to hear about your legacy.

My wife and I are alone....could not have children.

But we revel in stories like yours and let our imaginations carry us away.

:USA: NEWSFLASH! Middle School Football Jamboree was held This afternoon at Penn High School Football field. 5 schools went head to head for a one quarter at a time match ups. My grandson plays for John Young Middle school 7th grade team.

He played OK , as well as can be expected with reatively little experience. His team got their clock cleaned-they scored a lot of points-but the other team scored more. Defense?

I was in the stands having sympathy Butterfies & pains-Just like I was out there!

My grandson plays W-I-D-E R-E-C-I-E-V-E-R- Well. I guess thats close enough-Left Tackles play next to recievers! He actually gets to catch and carry the ball-something I didn't do on a regular basis.

Looking back-I think it was easier to play than be a Grandpa in the stands! But I'm loving every minute of it!-Thanks-AL :banghead:

Al, I can tell you from experince, that your support will be something he will NEVER forget.

Your kind of Grandpa will not only elevate you to "hero" status, it'll make him a better father one day as well.

I can't brag about being a great dad, but I think I do a decent job. BUT, my Grandpa made me want to do things better than the next fella- from my teenage years right up until now, All for two reasons. He was always there for me, and said 4 little words: I AM PROUD OF YOU.

I would've done anything to keep that remark coming, even later as a grown man serving in the military. His opinion meant more than that of my CO.

So you keep right on doing what you're doing. Your grandson will be a better man because of it!

Plus, your posture will be great from walking around with your chest stuck out! :banghead:

Cut him some slack..... He meant to use a contraction "I'm proud of you"....that is 4. :banghead:

So happy for you Al.

My Mother and Father in law had 16 children. (gotta love those Amish). Only 11 lived, unfortunately.

But my father in law's favorite was his son Bill who played football for Bremen.

And they went to state as a direct result of his playing.

As I understand this sect of the Amish....it is verboten to go to games such as this. It is considered "idle hands" by the minister. But Dad could not resist.

He was there everytime for his boy.

And to this day when he is in town.... He will even go by himself to the games.

He really got hooked.

Pssssst......just don't tell his minister.....lol (I think they have lightened up since then....lol) You will now see a few Amish in the stands these days.....lol

Perhap my father in law opened the door for them! :USA:

Kevin

Your's too? And come to think of it my mom used that line as well. Didn't (I did not) mean to go :banghead: but I gotta add this.

All y'all (You-uns) who think us hill folk is backerds fer the way we speak, The appalachian dialect of english is the closest thing you will find to true, old english, including what they speak across the pond.

Now back to the originally intended purpose of the post. Al, you are to be commended highly for putting positive influence into your grandson's life. If it ever seems that he doesn't appreciate your efforts just think about the many ways he tries to be like you. Imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery. :USA:

One thing we totally missed!

While we know that Al is a proud Grandpa.

Can you imagine how that youngster felt???

He knew that by telling his Grandpa that he was following in his footsteps.....

He knew that would make Grandpa feel good.

That kind of thoughtfullness is rare, and Grandpa should be most proud of that.

And I'm sure Al is.... :banghead:
