gcole 36 #5 Posted May 14, 2013 Thanks for the replies guys. I had a chance tonight and readjusted the points as I already did today and it ran a whole lot better. With a little more carb toon I think I'll have her beat. Speaking of that how many turns out from the bottom do I turn the low and high idle and what's the smaller screw Inbetween the two? Thanks in advance
WH nut 553 #6 Posted May 14, 2013 Thefre is no set adjustment for the carb. There is a starting point to get it running, but after that you adjust to get her dialed in. Adjust the high speed no load is turn in until it starts to run rough, back out until it starts to run rough then turn in until she smooths out.
rmaynard 16,354 #7 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) ...how many turns out from the bottom do I turn the low and high idle and what's the smaller screw in between the two? Go to section 6, page 6.4 of your Kohler manual, and you will find the initial settings for your carburetor. For the K301 it is LOW IDLE 2-1/2, HIGH IDLE 2. If you have a Walbro carburetor the only adjustment is the LOW IDLE 1-1/4 turns. If you don't have a manual you can download it from the manuals section of the forum. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/674-kohler-k-series-sm-tp-2379pdf/ Edited May 14, 2013 by rmaynard
gcole 36 #9 Posted May 15, 2013 Well the problem is back but now it won't start at all. The first try it stuttered and quit and now it won't start at all. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance

gcole 36 #11 Posted May 15, 2013 Ok guys I have one more question. Would the condenser body not grounded cause the engine not to start. Mines just hanging there attached to the negative side of the coil Thanks in advance
sorekiwi 761 #12 Posted May 15, 2013 Yes, the condenser needs to be grounded. The fact that playing with your points gap made a difference suggests that ignition system is not where it needs to be.
gcole 36 #13 Posted May 15, 2013 Ok I'll get it grounded and see what that does for the problem
gcole 36 #14 Posted May 16, 2013 Ok guys thank you so much for the help as it is now running again. With the condenser grounded and another spark plug it fired right up
