Picked up this 1983 John Deere 314 for $220

Picked up this 1983 Deere 314 for $220 today.   I'm not much of a JD but I couldn't pass it up for a spare in case something

happens to my 310-8.  He said that he can't get it to start.  It had zero compression so I pulled the head off the 14 kohler.

Found the intake valve never hits the seat.  I got lucky on this one, no wear on the bore either. Might need a cam since it

was always had spring pressure on the lifter and cam.

That's a great tractor. I use to work with a guy that had one and used it for many years.

can't go wrong when you find a buy like that on a 300 series JD.

congrats on the 314. i picked up a non running 314 just recently myself. mainly head gasket and some minor ignition problems. (dont tell anybody on here, though...)

ended up being a nice solid tractor.....

bit of a write up on it here..........

All I have found so far is it needs the intake valve and maybe a valve seat.  It's hard to work on it cause my 2 boys keep fighting over who gets to sit on it.

Boys will be boys.

Thats a nice 314 for the price. Even though WH is my favorite, I still have to keep one JD, one IHCC, and one Simplicity on hand just to keep things rounded out at my place.

It started yesterday. New intake valve and rotator. The carb needs a throttle shaft bushing, it's pretty sloppy and a new set of points.  Moves forward and backwards so it's not too bad.
