520 charging system

Recommended Posts

cdsl810

While running (without lights) my battery meter is right at 12v. Turning the lights on dips to about 11v. When I use an actual multimeter, I'm getting 14v while the engine is running and about 13v with the lights on and engine running.

Long story short... It doesn't seem like the charging system is doing much "charging". Should I bypass the voltage regulator and see what I measure, with the assumption that the regulator could be a little wiggly? Or, do I have nothing to worry about if the system is consistent at providing 13-14 volts? Maybe the gauge isn't what it used to be... Thanks

I've had problems twice where the volt meter was below 14 volts, and both prevented charging.

First it was the fuse, and a year later, it was grass/crap in the fusebox.
