Sanding the 604

Recommended Posts

1974-B-80

I was sanding down the paint on my 604 and noticed that there was some kind of a redish brown coating on the metal under the paint. Did wheel Horse use red lead on the metal, or could it be some kind of primer?

My understanding is Wheel Horse did not use primer on their tractors during initial production.   May have a redo job on yours!

Yeah someone put latex paint on the whole tractor with a paint brush. So you don't think the redish color stuff under the paint is red lead?

Probably red primer!  Don't know about lead but you should use a mask when sanding or painting anyway!  You never need to breath those tiny dust particles!
