Kevin, you have been really busy here of late.  Good work. Can I send you my 42" RD deck for one of your restorations?

LOL, just kidding :)

Did you have to buy new wheels or just clean up the old ones?

I cleaned up all the old ones. This time I just covered up the grease fitting and painted them all flat black with Krylon paint/primer. At some point I will want to take them off, tape them up, and get some red on the sides of the wheels. I also am debating just purchasing new wheels but they run pretty expensive on ebay at over $30. :snooty:

How about bushing the wheels? That's what I'm going thinking of doing.

I've restored (or refreshed) a number of decks. Have a spare 42" SD that I don't need, needs restoring, a summertime project.

I disassemble, wire wheel, sand, patch (MIG weld) using 16 ga galvanized steel. Clean again, then again.

Paint parts next. Is POR15 only available online? Read from their website, looks like excellent products.

I pickup most of my hardware at Lowes. A very nice selection of stainless hardware is available. Each priced individually. I use a lot of Never-Seez® during assembly and usually SS locking nuts. Lowes also has a number of bronze flanged bushings. I'm going to look at my deck wheels close, bushing them sounds interesting.

TSC (Tractor Supply Co.) has the drive belts, Kevlar® on their shelves. Huskee brand, not too expensive. I just replaced a 48" SD belt and a PTO belt and a tractor drive belt on my '88 414-8. All three were stock, on the shelf. Each was $20 something, 1 year guarantee on all.

Your deck restoration looks great! Mine OK, serviceable, but not beautiful!

Kevin, that is an awesome job, will you do mine, no just kiddin' I'm not lazy but not that talented. Did your idler pulley bar have the steel or nylon bushings. Found my steel ones to be to badly worn to allow belt to stay on idler, haven't updated post on that yet.

Absolutely awesome :bow-blue:  :bow-blue:

Thanks so much! My bar had nylon bushings and they were not too badly worn so back on they went!
