kaiser 100 #1 Posted March 19, 2013 i just picked up a semi restored work horse gt1600. the previous owner painted it red, but it's mostly complete and runs great. from what i gather the gt1600 is pretty much identical to the 416-8 except it has a briggs v-twin instead of an onan, am i correct? are there any other differences? i'm missing the side panel that covers the drive belt, are the 300 and 400 series panels the same? i'm going to have to find one. the tractor also has a new differential and larger axle. the original 4 spider gear diff went bad so the p.o. pulled one off a c series which has 8 spider gears and a larger axle. i'm not sure exactly what tractor the differential came from. great forum you have here, thanks! pete-

WH854 45 #4 Posted March 19, 2013 doh! i just called the p.o. he doesn't have it either. i guess i'll have to keep a look out.... That P/N was for the GT1600 V-Twin, but maybe you can use one off of a C series or later Model, they all look the same in these parts diagram. Try Kelly send him a PM P/N 107975 is available for a416-8 $70.00 new Chas
kaiser 100 #5 Posted March 19, 2013 Cool, thanks for the info. I might try to pick one up used, I'm pretty sure all the 300 series use the same guard.
Duff 206 #6 Posted March 19, 2013 Hi, Pete and welcome to ! You'll definitely want to put a guard on before driving the tractor - it plays a part is stopping the motion of the main drive belt so you don't grind the gears when shifting. As Chas suggested. PM Kelly - he has a wealth of used parts and is a darned good guy to deal with! Duff
Irv 115 #7 Posted March 20, 2013 Some of the 416-8s came with Kohler motors (I have one). There is a belt guard on ebay now off a 314 that will probably work unless Kelly can hooh you up. welcome to RS and we like pictures!
ericj 1,579 #8 Posted March 20, 2013 there is a difference between a single cylinder kohler and an onan not sure about the briggs , but there is a difference eric j
kaiser 100 #9 Posted March 20, 2013 so far the only difference i can find between the 416-8 and the work horse gt1600 is color and engine. i sure would like to get a decal kit for it, would it be sacrilige to put a 416-8 decal set on it? i mean they p.o. painted it red, it's supposed to be grey. i see redoyourhorse has some different color decals, i think the black with grey writting would look cool. i come from aircooled vw's and the purists would frown upon such actions. Duff 206 #10 Posted March 20, 2013 Not sacrilege at all! Although we have a few purists here, even they concede that what a person does with his/her own tractor within their means is perfectly acceptable. The main point is we're preserving Wheel Horse tractors as a fine example of American engineering and construction. What color (well, maybe except for GREEN ) they are is a matter of personal choice. kaiser 100 #11 Posted March 20, 2013 considering that i'll most likely keep this tractor forever i'll do it once i have some extra$$. this horse is such a blast to just drive around, i've got all sorts of crazy idea's going through my head. speaking of green, my step grandad owns a deere dealership in vermont and has a very large vintage tractor collection.....yet i chose a wheel horse, i gotta be different. lol

kaiser 100 #16 Posted March 21, 2013 i'm trying to find a part # for the implement/mower deck belt. i have no idea what deck i have, the p.o. said it's a 48". i got the drive belt pn# 108502 off the lookuptoro site using vin a1-16b801, but i don't have a model# for the deck. i'll take some picks of the deck tonight, so maybe you guys can help me out. i don't "need" belts yet but would like to keep them in stock. edit: i think this is my deck 48" side discharge in the toro parts lookup it lists 3 belts for the actual deck but it doesn't give lenths or anything. so guess i need help finding the part# for the mower drive belt that's on the deck and the implement belt that goes from the pto to the deck. any help is greatly appreaciated.
