Color for Work Horsies

Recommended Posts

Does any body know the original color for the Work horse line?  Most I've seen almost look primer gray. I did see one "Redone" in almost a pewter but it looked darker than anyone I've seen. Is it possible it started off the darker pewter and most I've seen were faded to a lighter gray?

There were two colors used, gray and pewter. Not sure which years were which color. My GT-1600 is gray.

1982 "Pewter Gray Metallic" Same as 1971 Lincoln-Mercury Pewter metallic

1983-1984 "Pewter Gray" Same as 1982 Lincoln Light Pewter

Found this in the illustrated parts list for tractor model E2-12K501.

The two colors used were pewter metallic in 1982 and (non-metallic) light pewter in 1983 & 1984. The light pewter looks like what I would call a "dove gray" vs. the goldish/greenish tint of the metallic pewter.

They are supposed to be Lincoln colors and there are several posts containing information about the WorkHorse paint colors. (search "lincoln paint")

The one I did was a 1982 GT1848 and I mixed my own paint. I used Ford grey and some gloss white and some black to mix the paint. I just kept going back and forth until it matched the underside of the hood, which was the only place I could find the original color. I mixed about 8 oz. at a time. It came out pretty nice.
