New to me C-141

Recommended Posts

Wheelhorse84

So I just picked up a beautiful C-141 today. While I had the rear jacked up for my chains I noticed the left axle dripping oil. When I grabbed the wheel I notice some back and forth play. Is this a hard fix am I going to have to open up the UNI drive? I was hoping to plow Fridays storm with it will it due serious damage if I use it? Thanks guys. post-6185-136018136278_thumb.jpg

When you say back and forth, do you mean in and out, or up and down? If it is in and out, up to about 1/8" is normal. If it is up and down or side to side, that usually indicates a bad bearing and will require opening up the transmission.

Nice looking C-141.

Side to side so I guess I'm gonna have to preform surgery.

Are you sayin rotational play (sorta like car backlash) or play in circular axis, eliptical like. I question backlash on my unit but may be normal, in and out don't know, but eleptical has to be a concern. Ther are several on here who work on trans and they may concur, sounds like a tear down the eleptical prob being bearing(s). Best of luck on not being worst case.

You can actually see the oil dropping out of the axle

If anyone has a link to a tutorial with either video or pics, I would be interested in learning how to tear apart a unidrive as well.

Do a search in TRANSMISSIONS for the key word VIDEO and the author STEVASAURUS. You should come up with everything you need.

Here is the result of one simple search.

I took apart an eight speed cleaned and put new seals in it.

It is really pretty straight forward. Everything can only be put back together one way.

And, if all you need is axel bearings and seals, you'll find it's really just wrenching, cleaning and wrenching!

Will a 300 series transaxle fit my c-141? Does it have the smaller axles?

It will fit.

"300 series" tractors could have either size axle, depending on model & year.
