During this past week I recived PM's from Mark and Dustin with a link for a Craigs list ad selling a super nice 854 "survivor" tractor. It took a while to make contact with the seller as the link for Craigs list just did not work for me but finaly the seller did call me. The 854 is all original (hood thumb screws and all) and has been used very very very little ...... it may have been worked a couple times and garage kept all it's life. B)

So I asked the seller to e-mail me some more pictures of the 854 and he does this thursday, I veiwed the pictures that evening and then called to ask a few more questions (remember a good Wheel Horse Hunter is a patient person), well all I got is a answering machine so just a message was left. Friday goes by with no responce from the seller either by e-mail or phone. I talked in the Red Square chat room friday night and after leaving there the e-mail was checked before bed and the seller had sent me a e-mail .... saying his father was going to buy the Wheel Horse but if his father decides to sell I have first dibs. OK I guess another 854 slipped by me BUT dang it it was a nice one! I figured a reply thanking the seller for the chance would be sent today BUT the seller called me again telling me his father does not have room for the 854 sooooooo ifn's I wanted it ..... I said mark it SOLD! This seller also had a freind in the scrap yard buisness who found another old round hood so a bunch of parts come with this deal too.

Here's some pictures of the 854.

Bill, I have a feeling that 854 will have been worth the wait. You can send me my finders fee in the form of two cherry 6X12's. B)

That's great news Bill. You seemed so disappointed last night when you said that the dad had taken it. See it all works out in the end! Congratulations. B)

The seller sent about 20 pictures of the 854 to me and some good close up photos too. So close I could see the steering shaft bushing in the gas tank was in great shape. The serial number on the 854 is lower then the serial number on my 754 so this is a first part of the year production run tractor.

Here is the picture that sold me on the 854. The original seat cover with no tears or rips AND it still has the string! B)

If you notice in the first picture of the 854 along with this picture of the engine how the coloration is different between the hood and engine, this is because the engine company would paint the engine (Wheel Horse red) at the Kohler plant then ship the engine to Wheel Horse where the engine was bolted to the frame that was already painted. This was another way I knew this 854 is a original survivor tractor.
