copperhead 38 #1 Posted January 13, 2013 Dragged this home today. It's a long story, but basically bought it as a favor for someone. Gave a 20 for it. I'm not familiar with old vices...but I guess there must be some value to it. Maybe I'll be able to flip it and at least get my money back...Anyhoo....here it is.. JimD 3,347 #3 Posted January 13, 2013 Your vise was made by the Chas.Parker Co. You can search the model and patent numbers and find out more about the company and the vise I believe. Parker made everything from vises to guns to lamps to piano stools. They began in 1832. I think you made a very good investment in the vise. You should easily get your money back if not make a nice profit. Or you could keep a great piece of history. A great find in my opinion. :)

Been doing some reading...You may be right..Apparently there are folks that collect these things and even restore them...How crazy is that?....That be like people collecting old tractors and.....and....errrrr never mind.. Nice viSe..... How wide are the jaws? (I can't judge it's size from the pictures) Jaws are 4 1/2 inches wide...probably weights about 70-80 lbs?...
rmaynard 16,289 #6 Posted January 13, 2013 Man, that is just what I have been looking for. Have you priced a big vise like that lately? And I don't mean a Harbor Freight one. You got a deal.
Coadster32 793 #7 Posted January 13, 2013 The old ones are very good indeed. The new ones out there are mostly crap. (IMO)
stevasaurus 23,274 #8 Posted January 13, 2013 I like it. What is the measurement between the jaws when it is open? I would have bought that in a skinny minute for working on transmissions. :)
copperhead 38 #9 Posted January 13, 2013 Thanks for the comments...I'm gonna clean it up and then decide what to do with it...I'll tell you one thing I'm NOT going to be doing.....is moving it around a lot.. I like it. What is the measurement between the jaws when it is open? I would have bought that in a skinny minute for working on transmissions. It opens to a little over 7 inches before the tongue starts to recess into the throat. I assume that's the working limit for it.
