14hp kohler on a c-141

Recommended Posts

having an issue with my c-141 14 kohler.

would leaving the key on for 4-5hrs without it running mess up a condenser?.

under load it bogs down and spits and sputters like crazy after a couple minutes run time at wide open throttle..

if i run it with the throttle at 1/2-3/4 it's fine. it just does it at wide open throttle.

it has

fresh gas

cleaned carb, cleaned both high and low needles, new idle seat and needle, new baffle gasket.

new fuel filter and lines

cleaned out gas tank

new air filter

cleaned and checked the points and reset the gap.

the reason i ask about the condenser is when i brought it home i noticed the key had been left on when it got loaded up on my trailer.

Sounds like a carb or points issue to me. Could also be a problem with your fuel pump. If the key was left in the on position, with the points closed it could burn the points out so that is another possibility. Points and condensor are like $15.

If you have time, adjust the valves, or pulling the head and decarboning it. Also whats the spark plug look like?

Don't worry, its to be expected. Don't be surprised if it happens again.

I left the key turned on for a few hours and when I realized what i had done, I started checking it out. The coil was so hot I couldn't touch it. I had to replace the coil and points. Now when I turn the key off, I take it out of the ignition switch and hang it on the parking brake handle. :hide:
