Missing the tailgate shouldn't be a problem. Easy enough to bend one or any sheetmetal shop could bent a piece of stock for you. Probably 16 ga CRS (cold rolled steel). Back when I was a sheetmetal layout man I made several trailers, almost identical to yours but, under the red paint I used 316 SS. Great find and the $$$ was? FYI: It's WHA Wheel Horse Addiction.
