It's all about the guard

Unable to find a drive belt guard for my 71 800 Special, I decided to alter a guard from one of the other Wheel Horse tractors and modify it to fit the 800 Special. This reworked guard not only protects my leg from a possible injury, but also I found that by keeping the fastener holes in the same location as the original guard, would mean that the belt guides would also be in the correct location to properly feed the belt to the clutch. I made a video if anyone wants to see how I modified the guard. This part one, part two will be available tomorrow.

Nice video, really like that flip up fender and what appears to be a tool box. Wonder why they quit that?

Ever have one unlatch when taking off? :omg: More fuel capacity and get the fuel fill away from the heat

of the engine when refueling. :dunno: And you don't really need to have tools with you if you have a :wh: ..

By getting an appropriate Wheel Horse guard, the big difference was in the shifiting, no more little gear crunches due to misalignment of belt to clutch. Those little belt guides on the back side of the guard make a big difference. Yes, Wheel Horse doesn't need a tool box, but it's a nice place to carry my lunch lol. Speaking of fuel capacity, I really like the way they designed the gas tank that removed by simply unhooking a latch. Some great engineering went into those older models.
