KC9KAS 4,744 #1 Posted November 4, 2012 I needed more space for some of the horses and implements, so we bought a "garage-in-a-box". I will let the pictures tell to story!
JimD 3,347 #2 Posted November 4, 2012 It looks good. I see they have vents in them now. Moisture used to be a problem in those enclosures, but the vents should help a lot with that. Post pics of what all you stuff in there. :)
KC9KAS 4,744 #3 Posted November 4, 2012 JimD, I will do that, but that will be another day!

Don1977 605 #5 Posted November 4, 2012 How did you anchor the cross ties?
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,527 #6 Posted November 4, 2012 Looks great. I did the same thing a few years ago. I would encourage to you make sure that you pin the framing to those rr ties and also use a racket strap from the top of the frame to a horse inside. Looks like you got the upgraded frame on that one. I lost 2 a few years ago due to snow load. I now have the heavier one like yours and as a precaution I add a few 2x4's from the ground up to the middle of the frame to be extra sure. Good luck with it! Jake Kuhn 1,579 #7 Posted November 5, 2012 nice looking shed! :handgestures-thumbup:
KC9KAS 4,744 #8 Posted November 5, 2012 The RR ties are pinned together with re-bar, and the re-bar extends into the ground about a foot. I also used re-bar with threaded rod welded to the ends to go from side to side on the end that was 3 ties high. Each arch leg is bolted to the RR ties with 2--- 2" X 5/16" lag bolts. My wife and kids call me "Over-Kill Ken", but I don't have to "lick my calves over"! The ties were culls from a place that treats the ties for the railroad....$20 each.....$400 The rock to fill the area + spread on the drive.........................................................$350 The garage-in-a-box................................................................................................$300 Making room in the barn and keeping the wife happy...........................................Priceless! Fun Engineer 859 #13 Posted November 6, 2012 Bought the same one last year for spare parts and tractors. Used it for a paint booth too. Really allowed me to collect more Wheel Horses.
bowtiebutler956 650 #14 Posted November 6, 2012 Very nice! I need one of those myself. Matt :flags-texas:
KC9KAS 4,744 #15 Posted November 6, 2012 Used it for a paint booth too. Really allowed me to collect more Wheel Horses. Yesterday as I was finishing up some with some stuff at the garage, I thought one of these portable garages would make a fine paint booth...maybe one of the smaller ones...add a ventilation fan with filter...it gets very warm in there when the sun is out, so you could even have "baked enamel"! SousaKerry 503 #21 Posted November 6, 2012 Had one of those for a few years, but had to move and new park won't allow them (for now) Waiting till the day they complain about tractors sitting outside then I'll pitch the idea of hiding one in the woods out back. Helps when the maintenance guy is my neighbor and we share tools from time to time. Anyways had mine on a concrete slab with RedHeads into the concrete never had any problem with it moving Had a few rips after about 2 years and the dang zippers broke that was what killed it. The little suckers are hopping all over the place in his! The mice are a concern, but then we have a lot of cats in the neighborhood. Now I am concerned about the stink the cats will make marking their territory! Is that one of the Shelter Logic units? Duff Yes, it is a Shelter Logic brand. Fun Engineer 859 #23 Posted April 1, 2013 Here's a couple of pictures of the portable garage from this morning. So far its shed 145 inches of snow this winter. 6 inches just this morning. No problems holding up to our harsh winters. This is the second winter it's been through. This is where I keep all my future projects including deck furniture and my canoe.
