whtractors24 2,962 #1 Posted November 2, 2012 my boss has a b80 model 1-0141 serial 91053 believe its a 1975 is it a short frame or long frame? also i wanted to put a k301 12 hp in it if i can with a craddle mount would that work ?
Racinbob 10,506 #2 Posted November 8, 2012 Long frame. As far as the bigger engine, yes, it will work. Don't use that riser plate under the 8hp and you're good to go....but, the output shaft is bigger in the 12 so just get the correct bearings and you're all set there as well. The 10, 12, 14 and 16 hp are all the same as far as external dimentions. Oh yea, the 8hp is a smaller block.
bowtiebutler956 649 #3 Posted November 8, 2012 I have a K301 in my B-80, but no craddle. Here is a pic. Matt :flags-texas:
whtractors24 2,962 #4 Posted November 8, 2012 Matt you think in a long frame i.can fit it with. A craddle mount ?
Racinbob 10,506 #5 Posted November 8, 2012 The shaker mount engines have a different oil pan and once installed position the same as a solid mount. I put a 16 hp on my 76 B80. Again, the only thing to watch is the crankshaft diameter difference but it's a simple fix. Matt, that's a beauty. What year is that? My 76 had the hi/low tranny and 1 1/8" rear axles. Am I correct that yours is a 74?
whtractors24 2,962 #6 Posted November 8, 2012 I would like to know bob thats a short frame correct.everyone is telling me i cant fit a 12 hp in a short frame ??
Racinbob 10,506 #7 Posted November 8, 2012 I think your's is a long frame but I could be wrong. I know my 76 was long and the big block fit as well as Matts. It it possible to get a picture? One more thing to watch. Some of the Kohlers have the starter mounted lower. See how Matts is above the battery. The low mount will closer to the bottom of the battery. That's the way mine was but it still worked fine.
Racinbob 10,506 #8 Posted November 8, 2012 This is a short frame 800 I restored for my grandson. The big block won't fit on this one.
