Recommended Posts

Hello as I describe in the title I want to install a K301 in a 165 auto with KT17.

I got offered one for 50 euro. what I had to change to install it. If the engine is even strong enough?

A good running K-301 will have enough power they built a 12 HP hydro. If it is K-301 AS it will fit in the shaker cradle, if it is a K-301S it will have to be mounted to the frame. As to whether the K-301S is a direct bolt down I don't know. My engine changes were with engines that were not design to fit Wheel Horses.

You will need the proper oil pan as mentioned above also you will need a different shaker plate and the PTO hoop is also different. The belt guard is different too. Go to the Toro website and type in model number 05-12KE01 for the part breakdowns. It is also possible to mount the engine solid to the frame as was done on the later 312's or even the earlier c-120's.

I have done this in reverse to my C-125 it is now a C-175

Are you sure the tractor is a C-165? with a 17 it should be a C-175 someone may have already swapped engines once before.
