Dieselcowboy 210 #1 Posted October 15, 2012 Just picked up a C160 auto.... It only has 2 bolts on the flywheel side holding the engine to the frame. Is this correct? I also have a clutch pedal that flops loosly about and moves with the hydro handle. I take it that I am missing a spring on the inside of the middle cover? Looks like a thread below has a good break down to look at. Any help will be appreciated. What years were these prduced?
midnight rambler 36 #2 Posted October 15, 2012 yes 2 of them should come up from the bottom of the frame, that is due to the oversized oil pan, they were first a 16 auto then a C160, i believe mine is a 1974 C160 not sure when they quit but they are animals, i love the 2 that i have. Dieselcowboy 210 #4 Posted October 15, 2012 Hopefully this one turns out to be good. It hasn't ran in several years I guess. The guy I got it from thought he could use it for parts of a 520H. I Saved it. Just 2 bolts huh. Doesn't seem to be enough. How do get a year from this machine? Any # list out there?
whc160 80 #5 Posted October 15, 2012 :text-worthless: You can tell the year from the model number. Post a pic of the number or just post the number. As tomwh1971 said there are two bolts you see. The other two bolts come up through the frame rail into the bottom of the oil pan & you can only see them from underneth the tractor. P.S. The 74 & 75 had the flip up seat pans. The 76 & 77 had the solid mounted seat pans. There are some other differences too.
CRE1992 135 #6 Posted October 15, 2012 No there are 4 bolts. 2 down through the frame. And then two up through the frame into the oil pan.

Dieselcowboy 210 #8 Posted October 15, 2012 Is there a list somewhere on w.h. tractor serial #'s to find years on them? I may be missing it somewhere online.
Dieselcowboy 210 #10 Posted October 17, 2012 Ok now I have to get this tractor to run. I have good hot spark but no engine start. Either nor gas in the plug hole will fire this thing. Not sure what to check next. Any ideas? This came to me in non running unknown condition. Seems to make some compression but I do relize the auto comp. release is there. Kelly 1,033 #11 Posted October 17, 2012 Try a new spark plug, and it is not recommended to use Either on small engines, I use carb cleaner or brakeclean, take the air cleaner off open the choke and give it a small 1 to 2 second shot of spray and try it, but like I said try a new plug, lots of old plugs will not fire under compression. Dieselcowboy 210 #12 Posted October 17, 2012 Tried several. Plug has enough blue to jump off and bite me. Must have bad carb issues. Or a stuck valve?
Kelly 1,033 #13 Posted October 17, 2012 I've started many engines that did not even have a carb on them, with a little practice I can mist the carb cleaner in the intake port where a carb mounts and keep a engine running for 30 seconds or more, you should be able to at least make it back fire, even with a stuck valve, but try pulling the head to see what you have. Ed Kennell 42,112 #16 Posted October 17, 2012 So, you have a 1977 C-160 auto w/K341S -71223A Kohler and a 90-1140 sundstrand tranny.
