14 HP Kohler

Recommended Posts

Tankman

414-8 Kohler runs fine at fast idle, or when working; i.e.: mowing.

Starts with ease, full choke at half throttle. Then choke off immediately.

The 14 HP Kohler would mow all day without a hiccup.

When stopped, mower off, the Kohler doesn't like to idle for long.

Been adjusting the idle mix and main jet daily hunting for a solution.

Hiccups, a few times with short periods 'tween hiccups. Then, she'll stall.

My 12 HP Kohler's could idle all day without a burp.

Any clue(S)?

Most likely the idle needle and jet on the carb need to be cleaned then the idle mixture and speed re-adjusted.

If you figure it out, let me know. Mine does the exact same thing (same tractor and engine). I can get it to idle down to about 1/3 throttle, but if you go any lower it will die out. I suspect mark is correct on this one.

Is the throttle shaft loose/worn?

312horse

I just picked up nice 314-8 today with the 14 horse kohler magnum , it runs great for a few minutes then it bogs right down and won,t hardly pull itself , if you idle it down it will set there and idle , but if you open the throttle it cuts out and wants to die . it almost acts like something heats up and causes it to do this ? coil maybe ? if so they must have buryed it , i don,t see it .
