Paint clear coat

Recommended Posts

I have painted a fender and hood with IH red. What do you all think about clear coating it. Durable / not durable??

I am far from a professional paint man, but my research indicates that a clear coat really only works well with a base-coat, clear coat type of paint system

From RustOleum:

Q: Can I apply a clear coating over Stops Rust Metallics?

A: Yes. Use Stops Rust Crystal Clear 7701, Painter’s Touch 1901 Gloss Clear, or Painter’s Touch 1902 Matte Clear.

It would seem, yes, you can apply a clear coat. I would try it on a test piece off to one side.

I think I might give clear coat a test over the weekend.

By the way, why would anyone in Delaware need a tractor? Tractors don't have anything

to do with fishin'?

That may be true for Stops Rust Metallics, but the TDS (technical data sheet) for the regular Rustoleum Stops Rust states that the use of "a clear coat finish is not recommended"

I don't mean to be confrontational, and since we have several different opinions, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer of your paint and ask them. That way you will have your answer straight from the horses mouth.

Thanks Bob! I would surely check with RustOleum, I use rattle can Regal Red.

Spent lots of time on the Choptank River, Denton. Great fishin'!

Pay attention to the dry times, I know if you put Rustoleum over it's self to soon it will lift, like if you let it dry a day or so you can not apply more right over it, you will have to do it right away or wait.
