Recommended Posts

Well i have a k 91 thats goes in my 551... the engine fires easy up and idels good.. no noise etc ..runs very good on idel, but when i try to rev it up it gets to much gas. (black smoke) and runs bad.

and if i adjust it so it runs good when ill rev it up it wont run good on idel... any ideas on what it could be.. i have cleand the carb and all the parts inside it etc etc.. but it has a clinton carb on it. and i ont know if that is right for it..

Not saying that it isn't carb related, but have you tried changing the ignition timing?

I have one here that won't run right unless the points are closed up to around .014"

sounds like the rod inside the slow speed jet is gummed up if you disassembe the carb and shake it up and down you

should hear the rod clunking up and down next to the main jet venturi tube if not the tube the rod is in is gummed up

and you will need too pull the brass soft plugs to push out the rod and clean the tube and orfaces by soaking the carb in some

carb cleaner and blowing all passage ways out with air

Just to let you know, your carb is a LMG Walbro off a Clinton not a Kohler. Your K91 should have had a Carter N. Not saying that its the cause of your issue but if its not a properly sized carb its not helping the situation.

if you do replace the carb to a carter N you will need a model #18

The symptom sounds like a carb issue rather than timing. You will want the correct carb on there anyways.

Thanks guys... have cheked the timing and adjust it a bit but it dint help.. so im starting to belive it must be somthing whit the carb..

so ill think ill need to get me another carb to it.. will look at those Amc put up.. but i dont have any experience whit those old. because ill never seen one so i dont know if any of them are right..

Will a carb from a K161 fit on it or? what engines use the same carb?

it should most clinton carbs (Lmg / Lmb ) type were used on small bore engines there should be a number on the side of the carb

like (Lmg #117 )

when you had the carb apart did you shake it next to your ear and see if you could hear the little rod clunking back and forth
