Decal replacement

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have suggestions on how to remove old decals so they can be replaced without damaging the paint?

Possibly use a heat gun from the back side of the metal?

Thanks in advance.

Heat the decal with a hair dryer from the decal side. Once you get a corner loose, continue to pull the decal while heating it. It's a slow process, but it has always worked for me. Any residual adhesive and bits of decal can be removed with mineral spirits and a plastic scraper. Anything stronger will have a possibility of damaging the paint.

Thanks, I will give it a try on a hood that i can practice with before I try it on a nicer hood.
