8 Pinion Transaxle Bearings on C-160

Recommended Posts

What started out as replacing a leaky axle seal on my 74' C-160 turned into splitting the case to find three bearings in need of replacement. The outer axle roller bearings are available but the inner bearings on the differential housing (one on each side) are not. These are the 1-1/2 ID x 2-1/2 OD x 1/2" thick ball bearings. I followed some older forum threads and learned (and saw pics) that a Torrington b-348 roller bearing can be used but there is also a hardened sleeve to span the gap from the 2-1/8 ID roller bearing down to the 1-1/2 Diff housing diameter. Does anyone know where to find these hardened sleeves?

Also, I recently purchased a 67' C-1077 (for $125) hoping to swap the diff to my C-160 but, a couple bearings fell out of this case when I drained the oil (so atleast one of these bearings is shot as well) and it's in such good shape otherwise, I don't really want to swap parts off it. So, since I haven't split this case open yet, I'm wondering if anyone knows whether these differential housing bearings are the same as my C-160 or if they are different dimensions. The two ball bearings looked to be the same size but were pitted so I couldn't accurately measure them. Both cases look identical from the outside. If I can get these sleeves cheap enough, I'll just order a couple more and swap over to the Torrington bearings (after I finish my C-160 and remodel of my old farm-house... need to have priorities, though which should be the priority is up in the air).

And while I'm at it, does anyone know what color the C-160's are/were? Mine appears to be all original paint but it's darker than my 1077 and all other horses I've known (and I've seen them all from 1975 till now). The standard Wheel Horse red is too bright. The C-160 is a darker red, more like candy apple red. Would like to clean it up. Jeremy

Jeremy, I do have a few sets of the 1533 bearing..They are the same in all the 4-speed and 6-8 speed high/low tranny's as for the sleeves for the torrington bearing I have yet to find them..if your interested in them let me know.

as for the paint as the older tractors age the paint takes on it's own shade of red..we call it a fine Patina..lol....and who knows what some of these tractors have been painted over there life..

MIKE

C - Series, Hood and Sheet Metal (square black insert) (also known as black hood models) for sale!

This sheet metal set, including C Series Hood, Dash piece, Seat Bracket, and Left & Right-Side Covers, and Left & Right Floorboards was sandblasted, epoxy primed, and painted the OEM Wheel Horse Red Paint.

The painted set is not perfect, a little metal pitting on one of the floorboards, a few little imperfections in the paint here and there as I'm a rookie painter, but this is a nice painted set of sheet metal to freshen up your C Series Wheel Horse!

Does anyone know where I could find a complete engine rebuild kit from for the k-19 ? I absolutely love my c-195 and have had it for years. But the motor let go last fall and I want to rebuild it or upgrade the motor, any suggestions?

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.
