Snowblower "Wheels"

Hi Everyone,

This winter, I want to try something on my snowblower. I use a singlestage snowblower on my C-175 for blowing snow when I'm not using the plow.

I know "some" snowblowers use casters or wheels rather than what mine has which are "skids" to make ground contact.

I want to convert my blower to casters or wheels. Is there a kit? Does anyone have an old blower they would want to part out that uses anything other than the skids?

I have a paved driveway and so do my neighbors that I use it on. Any help would be welcomed. My blower is a Model 79360. S/N: 4900900.

I made some wheels for my Single stage hi-chute blower. I got some 3/16 plate and made mounting holes in them just like the original skids for adjustability. I welded on some solid round stock for axles and drilled them for cotterpins.Then I got some decent 6" wheels from TSC just like deck wheels. I haven't tried them out yet. I got the blower this spring and had ZERO snow. I do have a gravel driveway. Blower is all sealed up and put away so no pics. BONUS!! Wheels do make the blower easier to move around when not attached to the tractor! :thumbs:

The older blowers has cast iron wheels around 2 1/2" in dia. They didn't work well IMHO and the skids that you all ready have is what most go to as they work much better. You want to put on 6" wheels, the biggest issue I found was that the wheels made it harder to turn with the blower down, and the wheels would drop down into holes and make the blower dig into the gravel, yard, or drive. It sounds like your using yours on concrete drive and now that I think of it, you should be fine with what your doing. Just make sure the swivel so you can turn as that was my issue.

if you are worried about the steel skids tearing up the surface of your driveway you could install hard plastic skids. i dont know what shape the skids are on yours but on my ariens snowblower first thing i did was replace the steel skids with plastic.....

doesnt your blower have the adjustment handle,thats where the wheels slide on and are held by a cotter pin,sorry no pic right now

I have HDPE under my skids now but with the weight of the blower, I wonder how long they will last. I thought that a wheeled blower would work better with less wear on the driveway and would be easier to move around when off the tractor.

I've never know the skids to produce any noticeable wear on my asphalt drive, and it's seen some better days.

I did make up a wood frame with casters, that I set the blower on before removing it from the tractor, it sure does make moving it around in storage that much easier.

Why not both !! A skid for blowing the snow and then wheels for moving it around. Okay, geniuses, time to get to work in your machine shop !!!
