ID help on old engine?

Recommended Posts

Pilot78

I picked up this engine along with the 603 out of Wyoming this weekend, the Wheel horse was located just off the old Oregon trail after it crossed the Sweet-water river. Attached are a few pictures of the haul and the Wyoming scenery. The only engine ID is a partial torn sticker that says 6 1/4 hp. The tin kinda makes it look like a Kohler. It has a starter but the data tag is faded and weathered and can only make out a few numbers but no info on a manufacturer. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably not a Kohler engine....probably a Tucky motor that was on the 603....wonder what airplane is sporting the steering wheel that WAS on the 603?

Engine tag might have been: Tecumseh H60-75016....which is a 6 hp....

Luv them ole round nose Wheel Horses!

Definitely Tecumseh something. The engine shroud should have a tag on the side next to the carb. If it's not there, you'll probably see four holes forming the rectangle where it was riveted. That engine won't likely be original anyway... 603 models were the "economy" models... no electric start.

If nothing else you have the corect drive pulley and exhaust brace for the 603, oh and yes that is a Tecumseh, sometimes there is a small tag held on by one of the side cover bolts, if it's there it will have stamped in it what the engine is, this tag is about 1/2" x 3/4"
