Electric or Manual, PTO

Recommended Posts

WH252-H

I've had both and prefer the manual PTO. I believe it's less harsh on the eqipment. Question: Why do most manufacturers use electric PTO? Whats the benefit? Do you think it's hard on the equipment or doesn't matter?

Just one thought, I would rather replace a spring loaded idler pulley (or whatever system) than replace a $200 electric clutch. Really what are the benefits of the electric clutch opposed to manual?

I think one reason is the move to use vertical shaft engines in most every tractor. Using a switch and wireing is less of a problem then linkage for a manual clutch.

I personly like horizonal shaft engines. I own one vertical shaft engine it's on my Dad's Snapper RER. I could not get half what it's worth and it's great shape so I'll keep it

as a back up mower, but I hate to have to mow with it.
