Wheelhorse84 87 #1 Posted April 14, 2012 How can you tell if the throttle shaft is loose or worn? Should it have any side to side motion?
wallfish 16,023 #2 Posted April 14, 2012 No side to side motion. To check it, spray some carb cleaner around it while it's running. If it's sucking too much air, you will hear it change RPMs and how it's running. This also works for checking the gaskets. No changes mean a tight carb

Wheelhorse84 87 #4 Posted April 14, 2012 Soooo when I sprayed the top of the throttle shaft on the outside of the carb the engine bogged down. So is that why at higher idles it sputters? The carb has been rebuilt and adjusted. When it's under a load it clears up a little.
Wheel-N-It 2,967 #5 Posted April 15, 2012 Yep its pulling a vacuum around the throttle shaft because the bushing is worn. That can cause the engine to run too lean at higher rpm's. I've got one of those sitting on my workbench now.
