Rubber Grommet on the early 60's Suburbans

Hi Horse heads, I have an old 1961 Wheel Horse 401 Suburban. It's missing the rubber grommet in the hood where the steering shaft comes through. Does anyone no what size grommet is used on the hood?

I have never seen one with a grommet there? are you sure they had one?

Yep They have them. I just don't no what size fits.

just tried measuring whats left of my old one looks like 1 1/8 od -5/8 id -5/16 thick

Kelly, I assume they're factory. My 400 has one. I'd measure it, but that's worthless. It's elongated and warped from age.

For a replacement, I'd just look at the local hardware store. A good one (Ace/Hardware Hank/True-Value/etc...) will have those rows of boxes with screws/bolts/pins/clips/etc... Measure the hole in the hood and find something that fits sheet metal and has a 3/4" ID. (the steering shaft is 3/4".) 5/8 would be tight and would be harder to turn.

Good news I went to my local Ace Hardware ang got a package of 3 for under $2.00. There made by Garden Bender Part no. GHG-1575. 3/4 INCH. Fit very nicley. and there made in the USA.
