What a great sighting for you. Watching Eagles is always uplifting for me too. Unfortunately for us here, The farm that surrounds our 5 acres just got sold and the farrmers that bought it can't make money farming trees. So, two weeks later 11 acres of woods are gone. Along with the Eagle nest tree that butted up to the property line. Also, most of the wind break we had. I only hope that when the nesting pair we have had for 4 years return, they can find something close by. There is 1 very tall ash tree on my side of the line and I hope they choose that one. Good luck to you and I hope things look up for you. Pat

Humm, that's pretty interesting. I wonder if Mn federal law is different than NY's federal law? :dunno:

The following is from the NY state DEC website...

"Warning: Harassing, disturbing or injuring a bald eagle is a federal offense and carries a penalty of up to $20,000 and/or one year in jail." :naughty:

Think maybe cutting down the tree that housed a bald eagle nest would be considered "disturbing" them? :eusa-doh:

Around here in Maine every nest is protected and they would be in big trouble for cutting down their nest or even getting close to it. They are great to watch-We have been in our kayaks and seen one grab a fish. It was something excellent for our kids to see.

I watched the following web site for 3-4 months last year. A pair of Eagles have nested in the same nest for 3-5 years now and have raised their young there.

It is very interesting watching the "live cam" of these masive birds setting on, hatching and feeding the eaglets.

Check it out....you will be amazed!

Buzz

Last spring a young one landed on a pole top transformer about 1/2 mile from our house. It died and knocked 5 houses out of power. When the crew I sent called in what caused the outage we were all a little heart broken. We had to call Fish & Game to remove it and couldn't keep a feather or anything. It would have been neat if it would have established a nest site in the area.

I think the concern here is greatly appreciated. But, the State has mandated a new law. If the forementioned land now houses all environmental et al.: It to will include, Any property for the enjoyment and or enhancement of public and or wildlife enhancement shall be taxed and or according to our beautiful state be public property. So, in escense, if you are going to leave it alone, according to ASC rules from old, Let it back. We are going to tax it. That is the State of Mn's Stand. Eagles 0 Mn.1 Yes I am upset. I really don't mean to whine. But, at this point, I can't help it. Moderators, just delete this if it is wrong. Thanx Pat

Craig, I'm scratching my head too. But what that meant was. If the land is set aside for non use like in the set aside farm program, the land will now be taxed as non-agricultural. So the taxes basically double. So, now all around us the farmers are removing woodlots and grasslands and plowing them up. I guess they don't really look up to see what is in the trees. And, I think, If the DNR was concerned they would have probably stepped in. But, I suppose they think the Eagles will just relocate. And, realistically, nobody wants to pay more taxes.

Well, I too feel sorry for your eagles, and I understand nobody wants big brother's nose in their business anymore than it already is. :text-protest:

I guess times are tough for everybody. :sci-fi-beamup:

:text-thankyoublue: for the clarification.
