310-8 bigger tires?

Recommended Posts

I see some people upgrade to the larger tires/wheels on these tractors.Just curious if it's worth doing?

If you plan on mowing you will need to change the front tires as well. I personally like the 23's better than the 22's.

I've gone to 23's on two of mine, but I left 22's on the one I use with a 37" SD deck. I've read in several places that the wheels will hit the deck shell if you upsize with that particular deck. Apparently it's not a problem with other decks.

This tractor has the 42" rear discharge deck.Does the steering feel any different with the bigger fronts?

I doubt it will feel any different Shawn. The bigger fronts really just look better in my opinion.

If the area you mow is fairly smooth I doubt you will appreciate a difference. if you mow rougher terrain larger front and rears will make it ride better

What do the front spindles/wheels need to come from?

The wheels and spindles can come from a C series or any 300,400 series with 8" wheels, I probably have some if you need them.

i have bigger tires on the front of both my 300,sone has the 23 in rear one with 22s,i like the look of the bigger but i think the 22 have a little better bite for some reason, the thread pattern is a little smaller, but they look way better with big imo,and it helps to put the short spindle to level them up,they are a little stronger too as they arnt as long

Does the steering feel any different with the bigger fronts?

Contrary to what some have said- It does make a difference. My 310-8 steers much easier with 8-inch wheels and tires up front. The tires are what make the difference. Most 6-inch tires have a pretty "high profile" (taller) sidewall, and it rolls under on a tight turn. 8-inch tires tend to be smaller in sidewall profile and just a bit more rigid on turns. Obviously, the rolling resistance is lower on a larger wheel as well. Also, I kept the taller spindles on my tractor and it made no difference in the way the tractor works and mows. The front is about 3/4 of an inch higher than normal, which is nothing.

Since you are using a 42-inch deck, you'll have no clearance issues either. As has been said, only the 37SD has issues.
