Nick 13 #1 Posted June 29, 2008 Bit of Ohio drivel I guess. Heard they were tearing our old shool down so I took some pictures as they did it and made this video. My big class of 35 graduates from 1988 didnt have a 20th reunion, or maybe they did and just didnt tell me Strange music but it is free.

Brrly1 1,146 #3 Posted June 29, 2008 Nick, Was it kind of sad to see the ol' girl go? The building I went to school in is still standing though it is kind of old. I believe it was built in the late 40's. Burly
Rollerman 290 #4 Posted June 29, 2008 I agree with John...kind of sad to see a peice of history like that go away. Sadly in my business I have seen a lot of neat old buildings come down to make way for parking lots or newer offices & condo's. One of the neatest was the Oliver farm equip. plant in South Bend,IN...we wandered around the old buildings for hours while the asphalt plant was down & we were on hold with our paveing project on the site. Nick 13 #5 Posted June 29, 2008 As an old building it was kind of sad to see the school going down. I just read it had been built in 1936 at a cost of $110,000. The real sad thing is that Dad and I were fighting over the building layout but I had to admit he was right, and he hadnt went to school in it for near 60 years. The building I went to for k-3 was bad before I went to it and it was torn down many years ago. Kind of hard now to see it even fiting into the open lot that is there today. I bet that old factory would have been real interesting Stephen. Heck Im overly impressed just walking through an old junkyard. :WRS:
Rollerman 290 #6 Posted June 29, 2008 Nick I dig checking out old junkwards too. There's an old tractor junkyard south of South Bend I'd like to get into sometime. Sometimes when I can't make it to a junkyard I just rearange my garage & it's like walking through a junkyard for the first time too.

Stephan- My departed father was a welder at that Oliver plant for 40 years. He took me on a tour once when I was a teenager-I even got to go up to the large overhead crane that moved the steel about. I turned down the offer to ride in it-TOO high for me. He didn't live to see the building come down-probably best-it would have been very emotional for him-40 years in one location! Seeing all these buildings ,that meant so much to South Bend, Oliver, Studebaker, etc be torn down makes me feel old. But then again I am. The old makes way for the new.-AL-
