I would if it was snowing, thankfully it's NOT! :icecream:

The past two years, I've worked both the Christmas and New Years holiday because of the storms. :angry-cussingblack:

I was way overdue for a break this year. :chores-chopwood:

:occasion-santa: Thanks Santa, good lookin' out buddy. :handgestures-thumbup:

Russ, I hope you and your wife get better.

I'm glad to know I am/wasn't the only person around here to have worked these days. Hopefully, next year I can send some time with the Girlfriend on christmas.

Russ, I hope you and the wife are doing better. It is no fun being sick and hurt over the Holidays...hope you put new batteries in the remote. :) A little laugh can go a long way...sorry. I have been retired about 3 years now, and it seems I can't get through the fall without some kind of injury. Anyway, I have had my share of working weekends and holidays. I hope you all have a safe one and get to appreciate the time you get to spend at home. Peace to all.

I was supposed to work my normal 24 hour shift from 8am on the 25th till 8am on the 26th but took the day off till 4:00pm. I'm sure most of you, if you follow the news, saw the big fire in Stamford, CT. that killed 3 kids and their Grandparents http://www.cnn.com/2...ex.html?npt=NP1. That's my department! A lot of our guys were supposed to go home that morning and spend Christmas with their families. A few of them are really messed up over this. Can you say PTSD! Later on that day the next shift, MINE, had to go back and do the body recoveries. A lot of people cried about the benefits and pensions that Civil Service Union employees get when the economy tanked. How many those who complained have to remove the charred bodies of children from a house on Christmas Day :angry-cussingblack:. Needless to say Christmas for me sucked but at least I got spend the morning with my wife and kids.

P.S. Russ, I hope you and your wife get better soon!

Jeff

I saw that on the news Jeff. A huge tragedy to say the least.

Thanks for doing a job I doubt I could stomach.

jeff i was down in that area the next day and that was all over the news.the sadest part of there deaths was there were supposedly no working smoke detectors.something so simple cost the lives of these people.such a shame.

My wife is a nurse and works a special program where she works only weekends and gets paid for full time..It works great for us most of the time as the other nurse's normally work every other holiday and weekend..My wife only works the holidays that fall on weekends which for this year and next year will kind of suck..good thing next year is a leap year. This year is the worst though because she works Christmas eve, Christmas Day, New years eve and new years day..She also has to work on every weekend that has the fathers day mothers day etc..The program has its good and bad because you do miss out on a lot of things on weekends, family gatherings etc etc..but having every week day off is nice too..

I work in maintenance at a hospital. I started on call the morning after Christmas. I get off this coming Monday morning. For the week so far I've had 2 A/C units down in the IT server room, a furnace down at a remote blood draw site, walk -in freezer down loaded with food in the kitchen, 2 major power outages, auto doors stuck shut for the ICU, a leaking main O2 tank and a new wing opening up with countless nurse call, fire panel, and ventilation issues :jaw:

No she works 12 hour shifts, more like 13 hours by the time she gets paper work done..So she works 24 hours but gets paid for 36 hours plus the full time benefits..Most nurse;s work 12 hour shifts 3 days per week, so 36 hours a week is considered full time for Nurse's

Kevin.
