Fill'r up and check the oil in my mirror...

That's right, my mirror.

My wife got in her Subaru to go to work the other day and noticed that her inside rear view mirror was leaking!! I said she was crazy, but when I looked at it, sure enough, there was actually a brown oily liquid dripping out of the mirror. When you looked at the mirror you could now see that it had been liquid filled, and the level was about 1/2 full. By the time she got home from work, it was empty. Go figure. Never had an oil leak in my mirror before.

Anyway, do any of you guys specialized in used auto parts as well as tractor parts? I need one of these.

WoW! I never would have thunk that. :thanks: Bob have ya tried yer local salvage yards? :thanks:

I would get ahold of the subaru dealer and see if this is a common occurance. :help:

in other words see if this is a isolated incident then maybe I would look into a salvage yard

one. If they all do this........ Then I would purchase a new one. :dunno:

Now if you were useing AMSOIL That wouldn't of happened... :wh: Sorry couldnt resist.

Subaru says it happens infrequently (yeah, right). New one is over $200.00. Seen a few on eBay, but I have been constantly outbid.

Local salvage yard says they don't have a '02, but they are checking other models to see if they are the same. Just thought I'd post here for a little fun, and at the same time see what's out there.

Don't know what the liquid really is, but maybe I should give your Amsoil a try. :dunno: Meanwhile, I have to drive at night with my sunglasses on. sHa_cool.gif

The liquid reacts to light and makes the mirror dark when headlights behind you shine into it. I found out my self these type of mirrors are expensive. I had a 2004 silverado that had the outside mirrors with the same liquid in them. One of them got hit by a golf ball and leaked the liquid down my door and stained the paint.

I'll keep my eyes open for one, Bob. We get a lot of total losses at our place. :dunno:

Thanks Ray. I found one at a local salvage yard, but it is from a WRX model and has gold tinted glass. Wifey doesn't like it. It will work if we can't find anything else, but she would like to have the clear glass like the original if possible.
