So What Are Your Other Hobbies???

Recommended Posts

I have a couple of hobbies to keep me occupied. I dabble in photography, i love old motorbikes. My favourite bikes are japanese like honda's and suzuki's from the seventies and early eighties. My last bike was a Honda CX500A 1978 which i stripped down and rebuilt. Dont get me wrong, some new bikes are pretty but you need a BA in engineering to work on them. I prefer things with carbs (food too!), points and pushrods etc, much more enjoyable to work on. My other interest is drawing. i have always loved WWII aircraft nose-art so i love drawing good lookin' women B) Im self taught and am still learning and love the curvy female form ( no skinny chicks!) here's some photos of my work and a pic of my last bike:

Beautiful bike! It looks mint, so you must do some nice work. B) I've seen a CBX in person and they are incredible machines. B)

Here are the Honda's my wife and I had before our child was born. (They left before she arrived B) ) Probably too new for your taste, but Honda's non the less. I put 17,000 fantastic miles on mine before I sold it. I miss it and I hope to have another bike at some point in the future.

Strangely, i actually learned to ride a "big" bike on a CBR600 before i got the CX. B) During a 3-day intensive riding course, the bars gave me Tenosynovitis in my right wrist so bad, when i passed my test i couldnt ride a bike for two weeks. however i could still hold a pint glass in that position so spent 2wks drinking the pain away

This is TOO WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have two brothers... one used to own a... CX-500. Nicknamed it the Pregnant Turtle. He rode that sucker to California and back, twice. I even borrowed it for a couple weekenders with my at the time girlfriend. (seems there was a burned piston in my Honda 750 dual overhead cam, wonder how that happened? B) )

Second brother had, get this! A CBX! The first model year, I don't remember what year that was though. Up until then he'd had a 750 Honda single overhead cam, which on a good day (I'm a lot bigger than he is) I could beat with my 900 Kaw. The CBX ended that dual, until I got the Honda V-65 Sabre, and once again, the race was on!!! By now we're both running well into the 11's on regular gas with bikes we also took on vacation. COMFORTABLY!

Only the Japanese could build a build a motorcycle like that.

Yes my friend, I've ridden both of those motorcycles, many a time. :horseplay:

What a diverse group of interests! First your drawing skills are amazing. You haven't had lessons? Really?

That bike is probably the best looking CX500 I've seen. I think they were an under appreciated machine. Maybe the Goldwings overshadowed them. How is they're performance? The one really BIG problem with bike's, especially Japanese bikes is the cost of repair parts. My last bike was a '77 Gold Wing. It just got to where the cost to fix it wasn't worth it anymore. (The carb's just sucked!)

Well I'll be darn, I've got a CX500 Custom sitting in the barn surrounded by horses. Its one of my favorite classic Hondas. It shares it little corner with a V-Max, a XL125 and a couple XL350s. I put 58,000 miles on my first CX500, sold it, regretted it, then got another (with fewer miles) last summer. Have you ever herd of the Japanese Vintage Motorcycle Club? Its a good club and they put out a real nice publication every 3 months.

Great drawing, how about putting those skills to work on drawing a few Wheel Horses? B) or at least a few ladies sitting on Wheel Horses B)

Your drawing skills are very good, excellent even. I would like to see more of your work. I used to dabble with water colors and oils in my younger days. Had a few go to the state show when in high school. I also like to do portraits or people in action, like athletes. I never enjoy the still life stuff. I haven't picked up a brush, nor an art pencil in over 25 years. After high school I mostly have been using another type of drawing pencils, drafting. Even then I hadn't really been on a drafting board in about 15 years since most of our stuff now is on Unigraphics.

Nice bikes, guys, btw. B)

Thanks for all the compliments lads B)

Ive never really tried drawing like mechanical stuff like tractors before, but i'll give it a go.

As for the bike, i would love to own another CX one day, it was a great bike. Felt very heavy and solid but was still nimble enough to lay into some fun bends. I havent been on a bike since my CX spat me onto the tarmac. I was on my way to work one morning , doing about 60mph when the oil pump failed with style.

The pistons seized and locked the rear end up before i could dump the clutch, resulting in me laying her on the tarmac on one side, slding along the road with my right leg trapped under the exhaust until the right foot peg kicked me off.

I then slid along on my ass sitting upright for about another 50ft overtaking the bike and missing all the oncoming traffic!! I got myself together, no injuries (lucky!) walked back and picked the bike up and rolled it to the grass and sparked up a smoke as shock set in. Jumped back on and started it somehow and limped it back eight miles home. I ended up selling as was because i couldnt take it to the US when i emmigrated here. Loved that bloody thing.
