So What Are Your Other Hobbies???

Recommended Posts

Other then wheel horses I`d have to say VW buses. This last year I also started making engine part for the old 36hp VW engine in my backyard foundry. The 36hp engine was made in the 50`s so getting oldspeed parts are hard to fine so I made them.

My 1965 single cab after about 3 years of work.

It is always interesting to know what other hobbies folks have, for myself it is currently chainsaws. I have owned many, still own many, I have run saws of every size and we trade them like a kid with a fist full of baseball cards. Here is a few of what I have laying around, the lineup changes often due to trades so a pictured saw may or may not still be mine. Seems that my tastes are shifting towards the 100cc+ saws, with a strong preference to Homelite, so there has been a lot of selling/trading going on recently.

These are from the 2012 GTG in Chesterfield VA

I build things Houses, barns, trailers, Wheel Horse equipment. My latest non Wheel Horse build. I started with this:

IMGP1679.jpg

Built a front axle out of 65 Mustang front spindles.

IMGP1871-1.jpg

Then the frame from some left over steel from a trailer, and mounted a Cougar steering box.

IMGP1876-1.jpg

Making mounts and fitting a sprocket to a 71 Ford Truck transmission.

IMGP1875.jpg

Got the transmission mounted. Also dropped my camera broke it.

IMGP1898.jpg

Didn't get any pictures of narrowing the 70 Cougar rear end or cutting the drive shaft. This is the next picture I got.

I really do not have any other hobbies that I am still doing. Before I did Gt's I collected model tractors. Don't really have time for another hobby when we have the farm to work at and helping my dad at the body shop. In the body shop we are working on redoing a 68 camaro for a customer. It is a really slow project but it is getting close to having stuff ready for paint. When we start to get it painted I will have to post some pics of it on here. Jake

I missed your collection of engines at the Somers show John. I heard thru the grapevine that they are very cool! I agree! Can't wait to see em in person.

John, that little circular saw is kick-ass!! Could have used something like that this past couple weeks building my garden shed. Would have saved a lot of trips back to the garage for the electric!
