New Kenmore Range

Recommended Posts

All right one of you experts. (And I know you are out there). I put in a new range today and I have a problem. I put in the LP conversion, Followed all the instructions to the letter, the burners work great as does the broiler. However, "Houston we have a problem".The oven burner is not cooperating. I cannot control the flame. It is long ,orange/yellow in color and sooty. I opened the air valve all the way. And tightened the spud valve down to the LP pin as stated. It is a brand new Kenmore rig and the missus loves it except she cannot bake stuff in it until I figure it out. I called SEARS and of course got the run around. Any ideas? Like I said, the burners and broiler are fine (separate burner for the oven). On a side note, the 520h hauled the old crappy stove down to the scrap pile without any complaints.(I think it wanted to run over it). Pat

I'm not an expert but I have done 1/2 dozen or so conversions. It has been almost 2 years since the last but I remember that one was a PITA. Something was incorrect with the markings on some of the orifices and the instructions had different info for the BTU's and corresponding orifices.

Your situation sounds odd with everything else operating properly.

Did you make the required changes to the regulator?

Is it possible you over tightened the spud? They don't always require the same number of turns.

Hopefully you can get a competent person at tech support to help out.

Good luck!

shorts

check the gas supply tube to the oven burner for a restriction, spider nests or cobwebs can play havoc even in new appliances.

Good News, We are up and running :banghead::banghead: . Mamas' happy. We got our first batch of Loris' famous chocolate chip cookies out of the way. Turned out the spud valve needed tightening a little more than what I gave it. The service guy from Sears said it best though, "I am not afraid to overtighten it cuz you see, If I break it, I pay for it. If you break it, You do.... Nuff said. If you know what I mean." Good advice :thumbs2: . C'ya Pat.
