I'm late to this thread but thought I'd add my support to the purchase of either tractor.

I have owned two 520-H full packages (mow, snow, leaves, cab, rototiller) and will tell you they were exceptional in maintaining our home (4 acres of lawn and 500' drive) and some business property.

This year we sold the 520-H's and purchased a pair of 5xi tractor packages with the same attachments listed above. So far, so good. I'm very pleased with the new to us equipment.

Good luck.

- Arnold Z.

RedMaine is considering an XI, not an XL. I believe the XI has the cast iron transmission.

Yep, the 5xi has the same cast iron unidrive as found in older stuff. The only differences are that the xi has two ranges and the transaxle is captured by the frame at multiple points instead of just by four bolts on the front. A significantly more robust design.

The XL is just a lawn tractor, huge difference between the XL and Xi.

Picked up the XI today! The snow blower and the cab were attached. Got it home and read through the manuals. Then I detached the cab, then the blower.. All in all it took me an hour, having no idea what I was being shown part of the time.. But, now I have gone through the process and gotten an initial feel.. Very nice quality equipment!!

I took it for a spin around the property, to get a sense if it would have better traction than my lawn tractor, and it certainly does. Tomorrow, I will put the deck on and do a little cutting. I took off the chains, and the wheel weights, but am now thinking that at least the weights should go back on.. Any thoughts?

Thanks for all the help..

Mark

you can keep the wheel weights on the tires year round.
