Thanks for this link fellas. :dunno:

So, did you ever get this done Karl, what generator did you decide to go with? :wh: I've heard that the Honda engines are the way to go, any imput from anyone on this would be greatly appreciated. With three power outages over the last year, I'm now seriously considering getting it done.

since im in constuction ive used many generators,i have two of my own,a 1000 watt kawasawki, and a 6500watt chinese one,the china one works great but its no honda, the hondas are the cream of the crop for portable gennies, they are reliable, quiet, and vertually maintance free, oil change once and a while, clean the air filter too and thet run 4 ever,i got a really good deal on my china crap gennie,it doesnt start like a honda but works,i dont loose power often so it will do,but if it were urgent i woulnt even think and buy a honda

Forest Road

I have a generac 7500 at the getaway houe. Its 4 or 5 years old now with no issues. I just borrowed a ridgid 8500 from a friend for the last 4 days. I ran 4 boilers, 5 refrigerators, some TVs and lighting. That thing never even winced. I doubt that I was ever had 50% of its rated capacity on it. No need to go over board on a big one. Keep in mind the chances of the refrigerators all coming on at the same time is slim. 7 to 10 amps at start and 3 - 5 amps running. Boilers pull 1 - 4 amps. Low wattage compact flourescent bulbs to.

Upstate I have a well, electric water heater, and a wood stove for heat. So i turn the water heater off when someone takes in the shower.

Now I just ordered a 6500 Honda yesterday. I went partners with my inlaws and another neighbor. THey're all in their 70s. The last thing I want is to hear "you spent our money on this POS and it desn't work." If you have some good neighbors its and option, why eat the whole cost.

The average home will do just fine on a 5000 watt unit. Good luck.
